It is very effective in killing subterranean termites and lasts long in the soil to help keep termites away. Lastly, it is cost-effective.
  • Bifen Insecticide / Termiticide (Generic Bifenthrin) – This particular repellent works exactly like the repellent mentioned above. The only difference between these two is that the latter is cheaper than the other. It is also safe to use on the soil.

Natural Treatments for Repelling Termites

Natural repellents are usually from plant materials and the only plants well known for their termite repelling properties are vetiver and catnip.

  • Vetiver – This plant contains natural compounds called votivine that help to repel termites, most especially Formosan and subterranean termites. To use it as a repellent all you have to do is plant it at the boundaries of your home. The extensive root system of this plant produces the compound vetivone which helps in repelling termites.
  • Catnip – This right here is another plant with the ability to repel termites. Catnip produces an essential oil that helps to reduce termite tunneling. The effect of this makes it very difficult for species of termites to build tunnels and develop a colony. With this, the plant can keep termites away.

Whichever method you prefer to use, just make sure it can help you achieve your primary aim which is to repel termites. Provided you can do this, you won’t have to worry about termites infesting your home or causing severe damages to the structure of your home.
