How to get rid of wasps

How to get rid of wasps

If you have found a wasp nest around your home or business, then you will want to get rid of it as quickly as possible. While wasps don’t spend their day looking for humans to sting, you still don’t want to take a chance of coming face to face with one.

Wasps fly around throughout the day in search for food and materials to build their nests with. They like to sting spiders that are not inside of a web and take them back to feed their babies. If you have a lot of wasps around, you may also have a lot of spiders around your property.

If you have already noticed a wasp nest, this article will give you some simple tips on how to get rid of the wasps. Remember, safety is always a priority. Make sure you are fully clothed to avoid any skin exposure. You will want to put on boots, goggles to protect your eyes, and a long pair of rubber gloves so that if you do get stung, it can’t penetrate to the skin.

Identifying a Wasp Nest

Sometimes a wasp colony will build up beside another wasp colony so you could be dealing with more than one colony which makes removal even more dangerous. It’s important that you know what the wasp nest looks like and where you can find them.

Wasps like to build a nest underneath a window sill and under eaves. They like to build a nest on bushes, plants, and trees. You can find wasp nests on the ground near bushes or areas that are undisturbed. They may also be found where building roofs overhang.

What You Should Avoid

#1: Don’t try to knock down the nest during the day or the night.

#2 Don’t pour gas or other flammable liquids on the nest and light it on fire.

#3 Don’t pour boiling hot or cold water inside of a ground nest as this will not go deep enough to reach the wasps.

#4: Don’t use a vacuum to extract the wasps out of a nest.

The treatment plan is going to depend on a few factors; how large the colony is, where it is located, do you have allergies to bee stings, and can anyone help you. There are many DIY traps that you can create to eliminate your wasp problem. One of which is to take a two-liter plastic bottle and cut it just above the very top of the label.

Once removed, you can place bait in the bottom that consists of raw meat, or overripe fruits to attract them. Once the trap is filled with bait, you will want to turn the top of the bottle upside down to where the opening of the bottle is now facing down inside.

The wasps will go down to feed on the bait but can’t get back out. There are also other ways to remove wasp nests in order to get rid of wasps. You can purchase traps at your local store or purchase cans of insecticide spray.

Always use caution when trying to eliminate the nests of a wasp in order to avoid being their target if they get mad. Plant flowers further into your yard instead of close to your home.

When grilling or eating outside, keep plates of food covered and opened cans covered. If you have fruit trees on your property, pick up all the fallen fruit and remove them from your yard.
