Natural remedies to get rid of flies

If flies are bothering you, your family, or your animals, you need to get rid of them immediately. Not only can these insects carry diseases and bacteria, they can also defecate on surfaces you may be using and lay eggs too. Flies can cause food poisoning, dysentery, typhoid fever, E. coli, tuberculosis, and cholera. While there are sprays and formulas out there to get rid of flies, they also come with a certain amount of risk in harming your family.  There are natural ways that you can get rid of flies and it is safe to use for you, your family, and your animals.

Natural fly repellent

There are natural plants out there that not only provide us with flavoring for dishes but they also act as a natural fly repellent. Chances are, you probably already have a lot of these ingredients in your kitchen or your home.

cloves in lemon

Natural Remedy #1

Cloves are always good at repelling flies from your home. To use cloves effectively, place 20 whole cloves into an apple that is ripe. Place the clove filled apple on a plate and the flies will go away. It also makes your house smell good as well.

Natural Remedy #2

Lavender is another excellent natural remedy to get rid of and keep away flies. You can grow lavender around the outside of your home, place a bouquet of fresh cut lavender in your home, or burn lavender oil near doorways and windows so flies don’t come in.

Natural Remedy #3

Citrus is so effective in shooing away those flies, in fact it is so effective that commercial repellents contain orange or lemon extract in them too. The citrus oil is a bug deterrent and it’s natural. Place peelings from an orange or lemon on a dish with a cloth wrapped around them to keep them moist in the areas where flies are buzzing around. Change them out when they don’t smell strong anymore.

What can you do around your home?

There are many substances that attract a fly in your home and you may not even notice it, such as the smell of something rotten in the garbage. If you have a cat in the house, you most likely have a litter box too. If you don’t keep the litter box clean, it will attract flies.
