Guide on cockroach traps

Guide on cockroach traps

Dealing with a cockroach infestation is not an easy thing. It can be very stressful and can require a lot of time and effort. One such control measure that homeowners often opt for is the cockroach trap. The idea behind these traps involves using bait to attract and entice the cockroach and then trapping it. The trap inhibits the cockroach from making any movements.
There are 3 main types of cockroach traps that are readily available:
1.     Sticky traps
2.     Mechanical traps
3.     Poisoned bait traps

A quick guide on sticky traps

Sticky traps work best when dealing with an infestation on a small scale. These traps cannot eliminate a whole army of cockroaches; however, they can be used alongside another strong and aggressive control measure. The trick is to place these sticky traps under the fridge or inside the cupboards and wait for it to do its magic. Sometimes it can take years because it kills cockroaches one by one. You should be excellent at monitoring to make sure that cockroaches that are caught are dealt with accordingly. Not only this but this will also help you determine which places on your property need the most attention. You can then place your sticky traps strategically where most cockroaches are caught. Another thing to take care of is to make sure none of it gets on your hands so you can wear protective gloves to avoid the glue getting on your hands. Sometimes other pests can also get caught in this trap. It is a cheap way to control the population of cockroaches.

mechanical cockroach trap

A quick guide on mechanical traps

Mechanical traps do not rely on poison or glue. Mechanical traps work by using various objects to trap the cockroaches. These traps can be bought from hardware stores and can also be made at home. The DIY mechanical traps can be quite effective and cheap. However, you will have to go through a couple of methods beforehand to see which traps work the best. Sometimes this trial and error period is very short while other times it is not. Either way, it is a cost-effective and
creative method that you can employ to get rid of cockroaches that have started living under the same roof as you. One such way to make a homemade mechanical trap is mentioned below.
1.     Take a jar with a narrow neck.
2.     Lace the opening of the jar with petroleum jelly.
3.     Place bait inside the jar so that the smell of it can attract the cockroach.
4.     The cockroach will be able to enter but will be stuck inside because of the jelly and narrow neck.
5.     You can catch many cockroaches this way and even reuse this mechanical trap by cleaning the jar and then baiting the cockroach again.

A quick guide on poisoned bait traps

Poison bait traps work rather differently than sticky traps and mechanical traps. Instead of catching cockroaches separately on the spot, poisoned bait traps work by poisoning the cockroach by luring it in first. Then, the cockroach goes back to its home with the poison in its
body. It eventually dies which then becomes a feast for other cockroaches. They feed on the poisoned cockroach and end up dying as well. This cycle continues until all the cockroaches are dead. Though, you will find a lot of dead cockroaches around your house which may cause a very bad odor. However, this trap would only work if the live cockroaches feed on dead cockroaches, if they do not it would fail.
