Natural remedies that get rid of cockroaches

There are many ways through which you can deal with cockroaches. A lot of people opt for home remedies because you can set up a way to eliminate cockroaches immediately without wasting the time to go to a store to get supplies. It is also incredibly cheap and costs almost next to nothing. We have compiled some home remedies for you which can be used to get rid of cockroaches.
1.     Baking soda and onion
2.     Duct tape
3.     Diatomaceous earth
4.     Borax
5.     Plaster of Paris with cornstarch
6.     Petroleum jelly along with a jar

Baking soda and onion

In this home remedy, you just need to take out the onions from the fridge and then dice them. Later, sprinkle a good amount of baking soda on the diced onions. This combination is deathly. Now, you are ready to use this mixture and place it in spots where cockroaches are most commonly found.

Duct tape

This is an excellent home remedy that is highly effective. All you need for this to work is duct tape and a bait. Place the duct tape all around the house and place bait (any food that a cockroach will find attractive) on it. When the cockroach will come to eat the bait, it will automatically get stuck onto the surface. You will soon have a handful of cockroaches stuck to duct tape all around the house. It can kill many roaches in just a night and you will also get an idea where there is a high infestation based on which strip of duct tape has caught the most roaches.

A quick guide on poisoned bait traps

Poison bait traps work rather differently than sticky traps and mechanical traps. Instead of catching cockroaches separately on the spot, poisoned bait traps work by poisoning the cockroach by luring it in first. Then, the cockroach goes back to its home with the poison in its body. It eventually dies which then becomes a feast for other cockroaches. They feed on the poisoned cockroach and end up dying as well. This cycle continues until all the cockroaches are dead. Though, you will find a lot of dead cockroaches around your house which may cause a very bad odor. However, this trap would only work if the live cockroaches feed on dead cockroaches, if they do not it would fail.

Diatomaceous earth (DE)

This is an uncommon remedy but can easily be applied by anyone who has access to a swimming pool. Diatomaceous earth can be found around the filter of the pool. Diatomaceous earth works as an excellent roach killer. Just sprinkle DE mixed with powdered sugar in the same quantities generously around the house. This will kill a lot of the cockroaches by dehydrating its exoskeleton.

Borax

You have another magical cockroach killing powder in your laundry cabinet. Borax is quite effective at killing cockroaches. You can combine borax with some items like sugar or cocoa dust to make a killer home remedy.

Plaster of Paris with cornstarch

Plaster of Paris and cornstarch are another two items that are commonly found around the house. You need to combine both the ingredients in a ratio to get the perfect mixture. This mixture will easily attract the cockroaches because the cornstarch will be nothing short of a treat while in reality, it is nothing more than a deathtrap.

Petroleum jelly along with a jar

This remedy is quite simple. This acts as a mechanical trap by trapping the cockroach efficiently. The only requirement is to have a jar with a small and narrow neck. Then cover the opening of the jar with petroleum jelly and place an ideal food bait at the bottom of the jar. The cockroach will enter the jar because it will be attracted to the bait, however, it won’t be able to get out because of the slippery edges. You can capture many cockroaches this way. If you have a few minutes and a knack for creativity, you can try out these home remedies and try to eliminate cockroaches in a fun and different way.
